Blackbird by David Harrower
BLACKBIRD makes its Nashville Premiere at Actors Bridge Ensemble June 8-6 and 13-15. This award winning play written by, David Harrower is loosely inspired by the case of Toby Studebaker, an American ex-marine who, in 2003, ran off with a 12-year-old British schoolgirl whom he had met in an Internet chat room. The play is in no way a literal dramatization of real events.
With echoes of Paul’s Vogel’s extraordinary HOW I LEARNED TO DRIVE and David Mamet’s incendiary OLEANNA, BLACKBIRD both earns its place among other modern dramatic masterpieces and distinguishes itself as perhaps the most controversial of the new canon. Showcasing Actors Bridge’s mission to present emotionally authentic acting, BLACKBIRD is 75 minutes of powerhouse performances from Nashville’s Christopher Strand and Britt Byrd.
Directed by Jessika Malone, BLACKBIRD stars Britt Byrd and Christopher Strand. It is part of Actors Bridge’s 2014 The Secret’s Out Season which explores cultural taboos in the service of creating community dialogue, inviting our audiences to consider their preconceptions and connect with their neighbors despite their differences.
Buy tickets in advance for $20 http://abe-blackbird.eventbrite.com or $25 at the door. The play will be performed June 6 and 7 at 7:30 p.m.; June 8 at 4 p.m.; June 13 and 14 at 7:30 p.m.; and June 15 at 4 p.m.
